Guido Tonelli is an Italian physicist, known for his contributions to the discovery of the Higgs boson particle, which was announced by CERN in July 2012. He was born on March 7, 1950, in Florence, Italy. Tonelli received his Ph.D. in physics from the University of Pisa in 1976. He has held various teaching and research positions, including at the University of Pisa, ETH Zurich, and CERN. Tonelli was also a member of the Compact Muon Solenoid (CMS) experiment at CERN, which was instrumental in the discovery of the Higgs boson. He has received numerous awards and honors for his work, including the Enrico Fermi Prize in 2013. Tonelli is currently a professor of physics at the University of Pisa and a member of the Italian Parliament.
